6300 Nokia picture

It seems increasing numbers of mobile users want to get keep it simple. They want a smart looking phone that does the business, but doesn't necessarily have to do absolutely everything. We don't mean basic or old-fashioned - we mean a phone that has the right features to match its user. The Nokia 6300 aims to be just such phone.
The Nokia 6300's 320 x 240-pixel (QVGA) colour screen displays up to 16000000 colours and is good for viewing photos, watching videos and reading text messages or emails on. Measuring a relatively large 30 mm wide by 40 mm tall, you won't need to squint when looking at it.
The keypad's large, easy to use buttons make a nice change from the fiddly things we often see
We were relieved to see the 6300's keypad features large keys, making it easy to use. Our only niggle is that the four-way navigation key above the keypad feels a little on the thin side and can be awkward to press.
At the bottom there's a small charging port that fits the new Nokia chargers, a 2.5 mm headphone jack and a mini-USB port that lets you connect the 6300 to your PC, which means no more searching for the proprietary Nokia USB cable.

The Nokia 6300 lets you access and send emails remotely and its built-in Java-run email client can also let you view attachments. Configuring your email is straightforward enough thanks to the setup wizard which has the most popular ISP and webmail settings already installed. You just need your username and password and the niggly, behind-the-scenes gubbins is done for you. You can also determine the size (maximum size is 300KB) and number of emails to be retrieved when you check your messages. However, because the phone is EDGE rather than 3^, it takes a while to download large emails.
You don't immediately notice it, but this phone does offer a fully expandable memory, on top of the small 7.8 MB internal memory, and this is essential to make any real use of the video / stills camera. The MicroSD card slot is found by removing the battery cover, although you don't need to power down to get at it. Our review model came packaged with a 1GB card but the standard pack is supplied with a 128 MB card.
Otherwise, the 6300 epitomises what Nokia does best - it's simple, it's easy to use and it feels well built. Yes, the camera could have been fitted with a higher-resolution sensor and it would have been great to have 3G connectivity. But this is still one of the best Nokia handsets we've seen so far, and it's set to become popular with businessmen and teenagers alike.
