Nokia E65 review

E65 Nokia picture

The E65 is yet another stylish phone from Nokia and that's not a sentence we'd have written a couple of years back. We would usually describe this slider phone as slim or thin, or even slender.
However, the E65 is almost exactly the same size as the HTC S710 and is slightly thicker, despite the fact that HTC crams in a full Qwerty keyboard.

It's on the short side at 105 mm and feels refreshingly slim too at under 16 mm, especially for a slider. It's no lightweight, though, at 115g, which could be due in part to its solid build quality - it both looks and feels like it means business.
The screen is lush and large at 34 x 44mm (240 x 320 pixels) and with 16 million colours it does a great job of showing off your pictures, videos and web pages. It gives good image even in fairly bright sunlight and at a fairly extreme viewing angle too.
While the Nokia E65 is has the look and feel to appeal to some consumers, we know that Nokia is targeting the business market, so we’ll concentrate on the business functionality.
The E65 features two dedicated one-touch access keys, which enable you to access a conference call, a favourite number, and your list of contacts. A voice recorder lets you record any important conversations and it is also easy to set up voice commands for handsfree calls. This functionality is not new, but handy in the light of the recent driving laws. It even has Push-To-Talk, which lets you use your phone like a walkie-talkie.
This being a business-oriented smartphone however, connectivity is really where this phone shines. It's got pretty much all the options you could ever need, with Bluetooth (1.2), infrared, USB 2.0 and Wi-Fi (802.11g/b), plus there's an instant messaging client as well as email.
The 50MB of user memory on board offers a decent start for stocking up on apps and data, and there's a MicroSD expansion slot if you need more. You'll need to remove the back of the case to get to it, but at least there's no need to remove the battery.
The Nokia E65 also has an instant messaging (IM) client, which enables you to have real-time messaging chats with other enabled phones. Technologies such as IM and VoIP (also present on the E65) are predicted to be a major hit, so you can sample it here first.
In fact, there is an abundance of cutting-edge applications – including sat nav (although you will need a GPS receiver) – to be found on the E65, And it all adds up to a very impressive phone. It’s good looking, it’s clever….and did we mention that it has a great sliding action?
